Knowledge Rooted In Pursuit
Today is day 1 of our monthly fast and next month's theme is intentional. Being intentional means to approach a task or experience on purpose. There is thought and planning that proceeds action when we operate intentionally. Many people can attest to desiring intention in relationships. When intention is exemplified and received by the recipient it denotes their value to the giver.
As believers we are called to intentionally pursue God. Our pursuit of God is imperative to our spiritual sustainability and it anchors our hope and joy in Him. As a result of pursuit we become more knowledgeable about our Heavenly Father, our faith is actualized and our hope is anchored in Him.
The book of Hosea is written to exemplify the relationship God desired with His people Israel who constantly went astray and committed idolatry, "for the land commits flagrant harlotry, forsaking the Lord." (Hosea 1:2) Important to note that Israel often fulfilled their religious obligations which can be disguised as intention in the natural. However throughout scripture God emphasizes that He wanted more from them than their offerings and sacrifices, He wanted their heart, for He said "I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings." (Hosea 6:6) Israels heart for God was distorted. And this is relatable. Our perception of God and His goodness can often be informed by people or experiences other than God. God does not change. He is who He says He is, and He is always good. We must allow the Word of God to inform our knowledge of God.
Emphasis on "knowledge" in the above passage. God wants us to know Him. A knowing that can only be cultivated through intention.
Are you growing in your knowledge of the Lord?
Peter wrote "Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord." (2 Peter 1:2)
God wants us to love Him deeply and his pursuit of us provides that opportunity. We have the choice as to our response. Will we intentionally seek to know Him, beyond a church service or a social gathering? Will we sit with Him, not in expectation of what He will produce but just to know Him, to enjoy His presence. Will we tune our hearts to hear and receive what He has already spoke over us.
May you read and meditate on the scriptures below
John 17:3
"This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent."
Proverbs 8:17
“I love those who love me; and those who diligently seek me will find me."
Proverbs 9:10
0 "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding."
Our knowledge matures through meditation on scripture and earnestly seeking God. Today may we ask the Lord to examine our hearts and our desires. If there is anything impairing us from desiring the presence of God and growing in knowledge of Him, may we surrender it.
