May Fast Day 1

Theme: Agape Saturated

Love. Such a profound word that is quite overused and misunderstood. Scripture says “for God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” John 3:16. The Greek word for love in this passage is agape. Agape love is unique in that it is unconditional and sacrificial, noted to be a love that comes specifically from God. For us to truly live our lives as believers after God’s own heart we need to start with the fundamentals.

Who is God? And what has God done for us?

Scripture says God is love. Which means the standard for love is established in God Himself.

And because God loves us with agape love, He sacrificed His only son, that we may be reconciled to Him and have eternal life. Deep! Profound to say the least.

That knowledge should urge us to meditate on the truth of God’s love for us. It is from the knowledge of the love of God we are able to truly love ourselves and ultimately others .

Slowly read through each scripture:

John 3:16

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”

Zephaniah 3:17

“The Lord your God in your midst, The Mighty One, will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.””

Psalm 107: 8-9

“Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men! For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness.”

Do you know that God loves you?

It’s easy to taint the truth of God's love due to our experiences with people. But let’s not think about people in their frailty. Think just about your Father in heaven. He created you on purpose!

In what ways can you identify God’s love, mercy, and grace in your life? I can help with the first one! He gave you salvation! Hallelujah! The best gift!

Take a moment and meditate on the goodness of God. Approach His throne of grace with thanksgiving and spend time thanking Him for such unconditional love. Talk to your Father in Heaven. Sing to Him. Hallow His name.

As you go throughout your day today, continue to focus on acknowledging who God is, and what He has done for you! Make it personal. Spend time reading through His word so that you can learn about His character. Pray that you would grow in your knowledge of His love for you.
