Are You Zealous?
It's day 2 of our monthly fast. And next month's focus is ZEALOUS. According to bible hub.com zealous is derived from the greek word "zelos" which conveys a sense of fervor, enthusiasm, or passionate commitment. In the biblical context being zealous often refers to an intense devotion to God, His commandments, and His purposes.
Ask yourself. Am I zealous for God? Do I seek God with fervency, enthusiasm in spite of my circumstances, or passionately with all my heart?
If not, is there anything or anyone else in my life that I can compare that level of commitment that I should have for God with? Such as a career, school, friends, loved ones and the list could go on. In a world of distractions and counterfeits we're often faced with the challenge of choosing God over and over and over. And remember some good things can also distract us. We however, want everything to be in the right order. GOD FIRST ALWAYS
Let's look at the life of a man who was zealous for God. Jesus, Himself was committed to completing the will of God during His time here on earth. And that commitment informed his behavior at all times. In the book of John chapter 2 it depicts people selling in the temple when Jesus went in, and it says "He drove them all out". John 2:19 reads His disciples remembered that it was written "ZEAL for your house will consume me". This zeal was exemplified through His actions.
Faith is imperative to having zeal for God. Our belief in God is foundational to our pursuit, dependence and commitment. Mark 1:35 reads and arising early in the morning, while it was still dark, He departed and went out to a desolate place and there He prayed. Now this is good! Jesus, woke up early and set aside designated time just for His Father before He started to interact with the world. That time was crucial. And so is this time that you're committing to God in prayer and fasting. God see's you and knows your heart.
Take another look at Mark 1:35. Are there details that you can practically implement into your life to be more zealous for your heavenly Father?
I encourage you to read the scriptures below and include them in your prayer today. Meditate and write down what stands out to you or save it in your phone. Praying the word of God is quite powerful!

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.
1 Corinthians 10:31
Whether, then, you eat or drink or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
