The Wilderness Is Apart Of The Anointing
The Wilderness Is Apart Of The Anointing
Today is day 1 of our monthly fast, and next month's theme is the anointing.
In the Old Testament anointing was done by the pouring of oil on a person or item to set them apart for sacred use. When an individual was anointed often times the Holy Spirit would come upon them and empower them for their calling. Contrast to the new testament where anointing of the Holy Spirit initially comes by belief of Christ in our hearts and profession of faith with our mouths.
Either way we need the Holy Spirit to accomplish the plan and purpose of God in our lives.
The anointing of God takes endurance, and is maintained through obedience.
King David was anointed king years before he walked in his kingship. During David's waiting season for God's promise his character and faithfulness was tried and matured. Before David succeeded the throne he fought animals while shepherding, defeated Goliath, and spent time in the wilderness running from King Saul who sought his life due to jealousy. But it was in the wilderness that David built character and relied upon God during difficulty. Psalm 63:1 "You God are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for You, my whole being longs for You, in a dry and parched land where there is no water."
When life is unfavorable, do we long for God, do we stir ourselves up with the word of God, and do we stand upon the truth of God?
Difficulty will always reveal where our hope lies
David's wilderness season came after he was anointed king, and before he walked in his kingship. The wilderness can sometimes make the promise appear bleak. But take example from David. In the face of adversity he set his love upon God. And God referred to him as a man after His own heart.
Anointing does not mean immediate fulfillment, and it can often accompany a wilderness season. But remember Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose."
Take a look at the below scriptures and include them in your prayers today
Psalm 23:5
"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; my cup overflows."
Psalm 28: 8
"The Lord if their strength, And He is isa saving defense to His anointed"
Psalm 91:14
"Because He has loved me, therefore I will deliver Him; I will be with him in trouble; I will rescue him and honor him."
Let's pray that we become men and women after God's own heart. If you're facing a wilderness season, or waiting for the fulfillment of a promise continue to pour your heart out before the Lord. Stand upon the truth of God and use the Word to extinguish the lies of the enemy. Amen
