The Great Commission
Today is day 1 of our monthly fast and our theme next month is "MISSION: GO"
After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to His disciples and told them " Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all the I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20).
That Is Our Mission
According to vocabulary.com a mission is a special assignment that is given to a person or group. And our mission is to share the Gospel and make disciples! 1 Peter 2:9 reads "but you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God's own possession, SO that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light"
What a privilege we have to be reconciled to the God of the universe through Christ Jesus His Son. We know our Heavenly Father. We have the privilege of communing with Him daily. We are chosen, by God Himself! Glory to God! God wants to extend that privilege to the world. And so, He is sending us to proclaim the truth so that others will share in our joy.
2 Peter 3:9 reads "the Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient towards you, not willing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance." God wants ALL to come to repentance. What a loving Father. The love of God is immeasurable. Hallelujah.
What does this mean for us?
The verb "Go" at the beginning of Matthew 28, calls us to action. After Jesus revealed Himself to His disciples He then commissions them to share the Gospel. Sharing the gospel takes intentionality and zeal. When we are zealous about the move of God it intrigues people.
Remember we are each anointed for the plan and purpose of God. He has a plan for each of our lives. So whether we're at work, school, the grocery store, gym, a restaurant we can take moments we may consider mundane and repetitive as opportunities for greater purpose. That person behind you in the check outline may need to hear about the goodness of God.
The Gospel is too good to keep to ourselves! The gospel has changed our lives in unimaginable ways. We know the state of the world is sad. But we have a hope! Our hope is in God, who never fails and His words are true. What a blessing and honor to be able to share that truth with someone and open their eyes to the freedom available in Christ.
So tell them!
May the Lord strengthen us to be intentional in sharing the Good News!
Please read, meditate and pray the scriptures below.
