In Awe
Today is day 1 of our monthly fast. Our theme next month is brilliancy.
According to Collinsdictionary.com brilliancy is defined as great brightness, excellence or distinction in physical or mental ability, splendor, magnificence.
Think for a moment about your greatest desire. What is the one thing your heart is set upon? Is it God? Can we truly say that our Heavenly Father takes precedence in our list of desires? And not in the I've completed my devotion, check the box kind of way. But similar to David when he said "One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord And to meditate in His temple."( Psalms 27:4)
When was the last time you sat and meditated on God. Not on your earthly desires or prayer list. Just God Himself. His majesty, splendor, beauty, goodness, and magnificence.
Moses asked God to show him His glory. "The Lord said to Moses, “I will also do this thing of which you have spoken; for you have found favor in My sight and I have known you by name." (Exodus 33:17) God loves us so much. And so often in scripture he references knowing Him. He wants our hearts to be set upon Him.
Consider the magnitude of Moses wanting to see the glory of God. This is no small inquiry. So much so that God said “You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!” Then the Lord said, “Behold, there is a place by Me, and you shall stand there on the rock; and it will come about, while My glory is passing by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock and cover you with My hand until I have passed by. Then I will take My hand away and you shall see My back, but My face shall not be seen.”(Exodus 33:20-23
Wait reread that. God allowed Moses to see His glory while protecting Moses. Imagine, God created light. "His splendor was like the sunrise; rays flashed from his hand, where his power was hidden. (Habakkuk 3:4) If you've ever tried to stare at the sun, you know it's impossible. Imagine the presence of God.
Today let's take note of the heart posture of David and Moses. Two imperfect men chosen by God for His purpose. We can relate. They did not just seek God for His provision but to actually know Him. May we fall in love with Jesus. There is no greater love. If we find it hard to set our love upon God, to want to sit in His presence, let's pray that our hearts would change. May we begin to enjoy sitting with God, reflecting on his majesty as we read through the pages of scripture. Sometimes just being with your loved one is enough. Sometimes just sitting in His presence is enough. He is enough. "The Lord is the portion of my inheritance and my cup; You support my lot."(Psalm 16: 5)
Read, meditate, and pray the scriptures below.
Psalm 145:3
Great is the Lord, and highly to be praised, and His greatness is unsearchable.
Psalm 145: 5
On the glorious splendor of Your majesty
And on Your wonderful works, I will meditate.
Psalm 86:10
For You are great and do wondrous deeds;
You alone are God.
Today, allocate time to spend just reflecting on God's goodness. This reflection would very well result in prayer or silent awe. Meditate on the work of God, from scripture, to your very own life. Pray that your love for God would increase. May we seek God to know Him more than anything He can give us. It is in this place of love that we are transformed. God is faithful, even "if we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself."(2 Timothy 2:13)
