Like A City On a Hill
Like A City On A Hill
Today is day 2 of our fast, and we're continuing our study of brilliancy.
Yesterday, we meditated on the majesty and beauty of God. Today let us explore how His presence changes our very countenance.
After God showed Moses His glory, He gave him the 10 commandments on Mount Sinai. And "It came about when Moses was coming down from Mount Sinai (and the two tablets of the testimony were in Moses’ hand as he was coming down from the mountain), that Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because of his speaking with Him."(Exodus 34:29)
This is important to note. The Hebrew word for shone in the above passage is qaran, which means to send out rays. Moses face radiated BECAUSE of His speaking with the LORD. Consider the depth of this passage! What does that mean for us? How can we apply this to our own personal walk with the Lord, or better yet our expectation when we tarry in His presence? We can expect that anytime we invest in tarrying with our Heavenly Father, we will be transformed.
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house."(Matthew 5:14)
Hallelujah! We have this light, rather we have access. Exemplifying the light of God begins with His presence. It begins with seeking His heart. When we devote ourselves to prayer, fasting, reading through scripture, and listening to our Heavenly Father we begin to emit light.
When Moses came down from Mount Sinai he scared Aaron the priest and the Israelites. Imagine that! They were afraid to come near Moses. So after Moses spoke with them, he veiled himself. " But whenever Moses went in before the Lord to speak with Him, he would take off the veil until he came out; and whenever he came out and spoke to the sons of Israel what he had been commanded, the sons of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face shone."(Exodus 34:34-35)
Whenever Moses left the presence of God his face shone. If we are to be a city on hill, we have to connect to the ultimate light, Christ Jesus Himself. And may our countenance and posture be evidence of our time with Him.
Read, meditate and pray the scriptures below
Matthew 5:16
"Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven."
Deuteronomy 6:5
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength."
1 John 1:5
"This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all."
Hallelujah! Thank you Lord! Let us continue to meditate on God's goodness today. Let us continue to pray for our hearts to be set upon the Lord. May our love grow for God. May we be transformed in His presence.
