Intentional Reframe
Today is day 2 of our monthly fast. Yesterday we focused on growing in our knowledge of God. Today let us focus on allowing the Word of God to inform our perspective of Him in place of our own preconceived notions.
The book of Jonah exemplifies a man in disagreement with the plan of God. God told Jonah to go to Ninevah and preach against it for they were walking in sin. Jonah instead "ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord." (Jonah 1:2)
This seems intense. God gives a command and instead of obeying, Jonah runs away because He does not agree with the plan of God. Maybe we don't run from God physically, but how often do we respond to God out of our misconceived perception, and ultimately operate in disobedience.
Jonah got swallowed by a fish, and spent 3 days in the belly of the fish. Then he cried out to the Lord and began to acknowledge the truth of the character of God which in turn informed the posture of his heart and ultimately his commitment to obeying the voice of God. Before Jonah's expulsion from the fish he said "But I will sacrifice to You with the voice of thanksgiving. That which I have vowed I will pay. Salvation is from the Lord.”
As we reflect on this story, let's begin to implement this process before we are desperate. More often than not our afflictions are what propel us to cry out to the Lord. God knows His children and He knows what circumstances will compel us to surrender and submit to His will. Which by the way is perfect, and for our good.
Today let's examine our thoughts or preconceived notions about God and His plan for our lives. Let us lay down our perspective and begin to use intentionally scripture to inform our spiritual journey and commitment to the plan and purpose of God.
May you meditate on the scriptures below
Romans 12:2
"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect."
Proverbs 3: 5-6
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."
Jeremiah 10: 23
3 "I know, O Lord, that a man’s way is not in himself, nor is it in a man who walks to direct his steps."
May we earnestly seek God today. Share your heart with God and invite Him to transform your perspective through His Word. Intention includes acknowledging our misconceptions or understanding and allowing the Word to inform the truth of who God is, as we submit to His will.
