Consistency Over Perfection
Today is day 3 of our fast and we're concluding our study of nutrition in relation to our spiritual journey. One thing important to note as we curb our appetite and trade instant gratification for steadfast faith and stillness, is that sometimes the fruit may take longer than we anticipate. When we change our physical nutrition there is a metabolic change that occurs that may take days to weeks to be perceived in the natural. And as we surrender our will and submit to God, we may not immediately see the fruit of that sacrifice. The most important decision we can make is to continue preserving for we are "not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."(Galatians 6:9)
Sometimes our anticipation of growth or the way out of a season can hinder us from embracing the spiritual maturation that is taking place in our lives. In the book of Hosea 6:6 God said "I desire steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than burnt offerings." Steadfast in the above verse in Hebrew is hesed and it has a few meanings including mercy, grace, or rather love in action. Hesed love is not contingent upon circumstances, or whether or not the person can perceive in the natural the love of the recipient.
As we continue to press forward in our pursuit of God may our love be steadfast, in the waiting, in the trial, in the uncertainty and sometimes confusion. May our love not be "like a morning cloud,
like the dew that goes early away." (Hosea 6:4)
And the best way to exhibit this kind of love is through consistency. To be obedient beyond the level of our comfort. To seek God even when we have so many other things that may warrant our attention because we're called to "seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness."(Matthew 6:33)
Today may we continue to show up. Not in perfection, but with an expectancy that God will make a way. And God making a way may not be what we imagine it to be. But let's hold back on thinking we know more than the Creator Himself. God has a plan for our lives, one we may not be able to fathom since His thoughts are higher than ours. But remember, "He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him." (Ephesians 1:4) Which means He saw every part of our journey before we experienced it. And yet, He calls us His own. May His love for us be an example to us.
May you read and meditate on the verses below
Deuteronomy 6:5
"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might."
Galatians 2:20
"I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me."
Psalm 86:15
"But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness."
As you pray, pray about establishing small goals of pursuit throughout your day. Such as reading the Word first thing in the morning, meditating on the Word through out the day. May we seek first the Kingdom and live a life of steadfast love.
